Infrastructure report critical of Oregon bridges

A new report analyzing the country’s infrastructure needs paints a dismal picture of Oregon and Multnomah County.

The group Transportation for America lists 439 bridges in the state of Oregon that it considers structurally deficient, with 22 of those in Multnomah County.

The county in the worst shape, according to the report, is Linn County, with 84 structurally deficient bridges. That represents about 15 percent of all the bridges in the county.

“We knew that the state of Oregon is looking at possibly doing a transportation package, and so we wanted them to have this information,” said Chris Rall, the group’s Northwest field organizer.

The most recognizable bridges on the list are the Sellwood Bridge, which is currently in the process of being replaced, and the Steel Bridge over the Willamette River, which is more than 100 years old.
