TACIR: County infrastructure needs at $300M

Coffee County needs $301 million in public infrastructure improvements, according to a report by the Tennessee Advisory Commission on Intergovernmental Relations (TACIR).

The report measures the cost of projects in conceptual, planning and construction stages from the period of 2013 to 2018.

The category requiring the most improvement in Coffee County and statewide is transportation and utilities.

The State of Tennessee needs at least $42.3 billion in total infrastructure improvements.

Transportation and utility costs make up approximately 61 percent of the state’s infrastructure needs at $25.9 billion.

Coffee County is looking at $166.7 million worth of transportation infrastructure upgrades, which is around 55 percent of Coffee County’s total improvement costs.

According to Coffee County Road Superintendent Benton Bartlett, roads are constantly in need of repairs due to everyday wear and tear.

The county alone maintains 637.28 miles of road. This does not include roads maintained by Tullahoma and Manchester cities.

In its most recent report, TACIR treated bridges with remedial needs exceeding $50,000 as immediate needs. For the full article click here
