New York State has invested just under $3 million in Albany projects to protect against future storms like Hurricane Sandy and Tropical Storm Irene.
It’s the first round of investments for Gov.Andrew Cuomo’s $700 million NY Rising Community Reconstruction Program. The program is focused on helping municipalities increase physical, social and economic resilience following massive storms.
The bulk of the funding will be used downstate, with $150 million allotted for projects across upstate. Just under $3 million has been set aside in the first round of funding for projects in the Albany area.
Here is a breakdown of the Albany-area projects:
- North Ferry Street Pump station in Schenectady got $300,000 to relocate and construct a new pump station near the Mohawk River
- Rotterdam Junction firehouse received $1.4 million to expand the firehouse
- Waterford’s wetland drainage system will use $1 million to make structural improvements to a stormwater system that flooded during Tropical Storms Irene and Lee
